Public Allies Los Angeles AmeriCorps Members
Public Allies is a national movement that finds its roots in developing young leaders that make a difference in social change and impact for the future. The organization prides itself in moving the youth to be inspired, to believe in themselves, to step up, and to act for what they believe in.
Public Allies is most well known for their AmeriCorps Ally Program which identifies diverse young adults and prepares them for leadership through paid full-time nonprofit apprenticeships and rigorous leadership training.
For their annual mid-year retreat, Public Allies decided to head to Big Bear. For many of the people in the program, it was the first time they had ever even snow, thus, many were ill-equipped for winter weather. Silver Lake Love and Patagonia, provided winter jackets, gloves and other warm weather options for 40 members of a subset of AmeriCorps members that come from very low-income backgrounds.
